Bon Echo Provincial Park

Late afternoon on the Abes and Essens Lake trail in Bon Echo Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada

Despite being a little warm and a little buggy, the Abes and Essens Lake trail in Bon Echo Provincial Park proved to be a welcome retreat from the noise of summer in the city.

The trail is a rolling walk, much of it under a thick canopy of deciduous and coniferous foliage. It is a reasonably challenging trek, winding for a leisurely two days through a series of small marshy lakes and gurgling streams.

The quiet here was almost deafening – broken only by the occasional slap of a beaver’s tail on the water, indicating its displeasure with our choice of campsite location.
