Jim Morrison - linoleum cut print on rag paper

After sketching the image of Jim Morrison on a ΒΌ” slab of linoleum with pencil, I cut away the lighter coloured areas with razor blade knife and a special groove carving tool.

A piece of heavy rag paper was then run through a manual press with a rectangular slice of linoleum that was rolled with a gradient of red, white and blue ink.

After allowing the print to dry, it was run through the press a second time using the linoleum cut of Jim Morrison’s face which was inked with a deep transparent red ink.

The result was a dramatic and vibrant image, which I am sure fans of The Doors will be familar with.
