Fishes

This lively illustration was sketched directly on a 20 kg (44 lbs) slab of limestone with a grease pencil. The drawing on the stone was then etched to make the image receptive to oil-based ink.
A roller was then used to apply a gradient of vibrant inks and the stone was run through a print press with a variety of heavy rag papers. This version was my favourite.
This printing process is a centuries-old technique called Lithography. I love the print shop. Simple, powerful technology that still has many practical applications today.
