The Santa Train

Incredibly, the very dedicated group of volunteers at the South Simcoe Steam Railway have a working steam locomotive that was built in 1883. The engine was used to build the Canadian Transcontinental Railway over a century ago.

CPR No.136A magnificent machine, it regularly takes passengers on a one-hour trip from Tottenham, to Nowhere, Ontario (for real) and back again.

It has become somewhat of a family holiday tradition to make the trip. This year being no exception, we headed down to the station to board the train this morning, tickets in hand (e-mail confirmation, actually, as you can web-order tickets in advance). The kind staff helped us board the beautiful old coach and showed us to our seats.

While we were waiting for Santa, I took the time to examine the lovingly restored coaches. After our trip, I practically sprinted to the front of the train to get a close look at the engine.

Great little article about the train. We were just commenting on the fact that the weather network was discussing the train and suggested that Simcoe was just below Brantford. They had the right name but the wrong direction.
It really is a wonderful thing to do with your boys and maybe number three will love it too.
I will call this week for a visit. It was lovely to get your card and a great catch up note and heads up on the web site.
    Hope to see you soon
    love wendy
