OSA Lake as seen from the South Ridge looking west. The fiery red, orange and yellow foliage, scattered among the defiant evergreen boughs of wind-swept Eastern White Pine that define the region’s vegetation was more than enough reward for our efforts. We continued along the South Ridge, dropping into the occasional shelter of a steep valley, the trail becoming mercifully softer underfoot with pine needles.

We hiked mostly along the top of the ridge, exposed to the strengthening prevailing winds off Georgian Bay to the west. We arrived at our destination, site H46 by about 6:00pm that evening, which is tucked away on Bunny Rabbit Lake. We were presented with a stunning view of Silver Peak, the summit still concealed by mist and low-hanging clouds.

Here we are filtering some water for dinner at H46 with Silver Peak looming in the background. As we were all tired, we quickly filtered some water, fired up the portable stoves and cooked dinner. Dinner wasn’t that large as I realized that I had left half of our provisions back home – immediately making me the least popular member of the expedition team. I sheepishly offered to wash dishes after the meal.
